"See your health in a new way." This is what Apple has always wanted to do.
The end of the Apple conference was equally exciting. It wasn’t the dark light that was just released. It wasn’t a brand new Home button. It was five closely linked health promotion videos.
Health, just four steps
Apple believes that health can be achieved as long as it is "moving much more, eating well, sleeping well, and spending more time relaxing." And just as relieving stress can bring good sleep, good sleep also promotes good eating habits, and a healthy little thing can gradually form a virtuous circle.
Apple, through its iPhone, Apple Watch, and third-party applications, will be "Everything's Connected." From Apple's point of view, WatchOS 3 is a system that can connect the above daily lives together:
A new version of the health app is on the App Store. It is divided into four categories based on daily activities, awareness, nutrition and sleep. According to the access application, users can review their four indicators.
Daily activities
On the iPhone, we are familiar with the number of steps, distance monitoring, and the number of crawling floors; and the fit Apple Watch can record more detailed activities of the user, such as the number of standing and calories burned. These functions are already well-known to users and will not be repeated.
Sleep monitoring
In the clock application of the iPhone, a tag named “Bed Time†has been added. This tag can help users to record the time of sleeping and getting up, so that they can easily understand their sleep habits. There are no native apps for monitoring sleep on Apple Watch. However, many third-party applications are able to do this.
Mindfulness
Apple believes that if it takes a few minutes a day to take a deep breath and relax, it is a way to quickly reduce stress. This has created Apple's new feature - Mindfulness. There are many third-party applications that have this feature, and the Breath feature that comes with WatchOS 3 can do the same.
nutrition
"You are what you eat." This sentence undoubtedly explains the importance of diet to health. This point, the same Apple is still relying on a large number of third-party platforms, they only do access.
Apple said that health is a "make you stop" application. And Apple has spent so much effort on making five health-related videos. Its ambition for the health field has also emerged.
Apple's healthy past and present
In 2013, the Apple Watch prototype design that was not yet called Apple Watch attracted a lot of attention. Many commentators believe that this will be the first step for Apple to enter the wearable device, and its health monitoring function has also triggered everyone's reverie.
In February 2014, Apple applied for a health monitoring system that was allegedly used as a monitoring system for headphones or other devices to record biological data such as body temperature, heart rate, and sweat. However, there were speculations at the time and everyone did not think that it would meet the users in what form.
In March 2014, an Apple app codenamed Healthbook was exposed and included six aspects:
Fitness data
Heart rate, blood pressure
Blood, oxygen saturation and blood sugar
Body moisture content, respiratory rate
Sleep monitoring
Emergency card
In fact, this is the predecessor of our current "healthy" application. Although adjustments have been made to the actual situation, its purpose has not changed: a personal health management platform. Third-party applications and devices, as well as Apple Watch, which has not yet been released at the time, have allowed Apple Health Platform an unlimited number of possible sources of data.
So immediately, HealthKit was released on the WWDC 14, becoming a key product for Apple to enter the mobile medical field. If HealthKit is a platform for personal data, the subsequent ResearchKit is an open source pure medical research platform that collects personal data as a sample of macro research. The CareKit released in March this year is completely targeted at individual diseases. Suffering from a service. This has also allowed Apple to slowly shift from the original label of the series of explosive products to a health-conscious company.
The birth of the Apple Watch makes it even easier for everyone to believe that it will lead the next wave of health. In April of this year, Apple Watch had already launched seven new promotional videos, and among them, the display of fitness functions accounted for more than half, showing that Apple also had great expectations for the health functions of Apple Watch. Or rather, this wearable device hosts the vast majority of Apple's collection of physical data.
However, the heart rate and other monitoring functions on the wearable devices cannot meet FDA standards, so the data collected by Apple Watch cannot be used for medical purposes. This also allows Apple to open up the import of data to third parties. Only collect and organize.
As a company at the forefront of the era, if Apple wants to develop into the health field, wearables will only be a carrier, not a result. From today's point of view, Apple has done this, it has given the initiative to third-party applications, it only open the interface and provide the platform, and users also have more options.
Recently, however, Apple passed a patent for a wearable device that can monitor ECG. It shows that it can monitor ECG through pressure sensing technology, which is a basis for medical diagnosis. If implemented into the product, Apple will have the key monitoring capabilities that can really be used for medicine. This also shows that, in addition to opening the interface to third parties, Apple is willing to conduct research and development on its own, after all, there is food in the hands of the heart do not panic.
More stringent health application reviews
Although third-party applications are very popular, just before the launch of the conference, Apple released the latest App Store specification, which puts forward higher requirements for health applications in the "5.1.3 Health and Health Study."
The previous guidelines have established an agreement to avoid personal injury. Lei Fengwang (searching for "Lei Feng Net" public concern) consulted the industry and the other party said that "the new and old regulations have not added new content in essence." But expressed in more explicit language."
All applications related to health care, in addition to the need to comply with the relevant provisions of other apps, must also comply with some additional provisions to protect user privacy:
The first is the use of data for the application. Except for health studies that have been approved by users or related agencies, no application can use or disclose data related to health, fitness or medical related data, including for personal use and other purposes.
Second, the application must not write any false data to HealthKit or other medical research medical procedures, nor can it store any personal health data on iCloud.
In addition to the application of research on health data, Apple stated that it needs to go through a series of user consents, including time, nature, and purpose, as well as related procedures, risks, and interest participants, as well as the confidentiality of information data.
More importantly, if the application is to conduct research related to human health, it needs to provide a standard that is passed by an independent ethical review committee (currently for US developers, other regions to be tested).
Lei Feng network consulted several practitioners, they said that in fact the first two provisions are just a principle guide for Apple developers, "because Apple still allows us to put the user's data on their own servers, as to how to use these data In fact, Apple has no way of knowing it.†Restricting data retention on iCloud is a way for Apple to avoid risks. After all, protecting users’ privacy data is still stressful.
Dr. Iltifat Husain of iMedical also stated that this is the most stringent regulation he has ever published in the field of health. This also shows that Apple seems to have been reluctant to do minor health monitoring, but wants to really convert mobile devices into "medical doctors" that can be used in the medical field.
Just as Apple announced to us, we also hope that the mobile platform it builds will make our life better:
"It's very simple, really."
