Seismic Game acquires VR content startup Grue Games

Founded in 2011, Seismic Game has launched the licensed IP game "Call of Duty: Clan Wars" and "Skylander Battlecast". The game company has announced that it has acquired Grue Games and the two studios will merge. Grue Games is a startup focused on virtual reality, mixed reality projects, and its executive director, John Linden, served as director of Activision Blizzard's Beachhead studio. After the merger, Linden will serve as the chairman of the new company, while former Guru creative director Trey Watkins will lead the former Grue development team. The combined studio will operate under the Seismic brand.

Seismic said that they are "extending rapidly" and are currently developing two games based on the "main movie world", which is expected to be postponed in 2017. They are also working on a vr game project with original IP. The company currently focuses on mobile vr games, but they are also developing location-based VR. After the merger, Seismic's two studio employees in Los Angeles have grown to more than 50.

Borrud has been rolling in the gaming industry for 20 years, and his Pandemic Studios studio was taken over by EA for $860 million in 2007. Eric Gewirtz, co-founder and chief creative director of Seismic, has served as director of Star Wars: Frontline and Star Wars: Frontline 2, and the game has sold more than 14 million copies to date.

The developer community is currently worried that it will not be profitable in the early stages of VR development, and Seismic is also carefully developing vr games. Borrud said: "We see VR more as a research and development project than a wholehearted commitment. We are experimenting with different methods and concepts."
