The MIC3205 is an excellent example of a hysteresis, buck, high-brightness LED (HBLED) driver developed by Micrel. The FM solution is patent-pending and maintains a constant operating frequency over the entire input voltage range. The MIC3205 provides an ideal solution for internal/external lighting, architectural and ambient lighting, LED bulbs and other general lighting applications.

The MIC3205's input voltage ranges from 4.5V to 40V, making it ideal for lighting applications that require a large input voltage range. Hysteresis control ensures good power supply rejection and fast response during load transients and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) attenuation. High-side current sensing and on-chip current sense amplifiers provide LED current accuracy of ±5%. This product uses an external high-side current sense resistor to set the output current.

The MIC3205 provides a dedicated Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) input (DIM) for a wide range of pulse dimming. The high frequency switch operates at up to 1.5MHz and uses smaller external components for maximum space savings and reduced cost.

The MIC3205 operates over a contact temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and is available in a 10-lead 3mm x 3mm MLF? package.

Many power management companies in the market are involved in the LED driver business, and the driving force in the LED market is the demand for products with higher power density, cheaper, more integrated and more efficient.
