Osram Opto Semiconductors announced that it has two LED components - the Oslon SSL LED and the Golden Dragon Plus - that have passed the LM-80 test for lumen maintenance by the Lighting Engineering Society (IESNA). An LM-80 test report is very effective for Orsam's customers to pass those important levels, such as the ENERGY STAR selection for luminaire design.
The LM-80 test focuses on components of the light source, including packaged LEDs, arrays, and modules. The reason for designing this test is to make a fair comparison of the various products from different manufacturers. In addition to focusing on components, luminaire procurement specifications may require LM-80 test reports for LED products. There are also many influential ones, such as the US Department of Energy's recommendation to use the LM-80 test as a purchase standard. In addition, this test report is also authorized as the standard for Energy Star rates, and Energy Star is increasingly becoming a necessary condition for US product sales. Artur Groesbrink, head of product standardization at Osram Opto Semiconductors, said, "If a company's products want to succeed in the US market, Energy Star is the point."
Osram has completed LM-80 testing of two LED series, and LM-80 testing of other models is also underway. “Successfully completing the LM-80 test for two different series of LED products is a huge achievement, but this is just the beginning.†Groesbrink said, “Other products have also entered the testing phase, so in the near future, All high-power LED products for general lighting will be tested with LM-80."
Oslon is a ceramic-based LED product with a small light source and a narrow illumination direction. It offers compact, energy-efficient lighting fixtures. The Golden Dragon Plus LED is a pre-formed design that delivers more than 100 lm/W.
In the LM-80 test, the product under test needs to operate continuously for 6,000 hours or 9 months at 55 °C and 85 °C at two different temperatures. Also, the LM-80 requires component manufacturers to select a third temperature for testing. Orsram chose 105°C as the third temperature for Oslon and Golden Dragon Plus LED testing to show Orsram's “highly demanding applicationsâ€.
