Distance vector agreement
The distance vector protocol directly transmits the respective routing table information. Routers in the network get routing information from their neighbor routers, and send these routing information together with their local routing information to other neighbors, so that the first-level transmission is passed down to achieve network-wide synchronization. Each router does not understand the entire network topology, they only know the network conditions directly connected to them, and update their routing tables based on the routing information obtained from neighbors.
The distance vector protocol is relatively simple to implement and manage, but its convergence speed is slow, the amount of packets is large, it occupies more network overhead, and various special treatments must be done to avoid routing loops.
Current protocols based on distance vector algorithms include RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, and BGP. Among them BGP is a variant of the distance vector protocol, it is a path vector protocol.
