HP launches Pavilion Wave computer-like speakers

The Verge Chinese website reported on September 1

HP today introduced a new PC. From the outside, it is not like a desktop computer, but like a speaker. HP's original intention is this: It wants to put the computer in a small box, at home, just like furniture.

The new computer, named Pavilion Wave, is like a tall triangular prism with curved sides and black and white textiles. It looks like a speaker. The front of the chassis has a USB port and a headphone jack. At the rear there is a black strip with various interfaces, including a USB port (one is USB-C), an HDMI port, and an SD slot.

Although Wave itself is not a speaker, Hewlett-Packard emphasized the speaker's function when promoting. Inside the PC there is a large central speaker that can transmit sound in all directions. In a confined space, the speaker sounds loud, but it cannot replace a stand-alone speaker.

Let's take a look at the Wave configuration: Users can choose either an i3 or i5 Skylake processor with a 1TB hard disk or a 128GB solid state drive with 8GB or 16GB of memory. You can choose either an integrated graphics card or a standalone AMD 49 M470 graphics card. If you have an integrated graphics card, Wave can drive two QHD screens or a single 4K screen at the same time. The PC also has 2 built-in microphones that can support Windows 10 Cortana. Wave will start selling next month and will be priced at $529.99.
