21ic News Analog Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADI) recently introduced an ultra high definition (UHD) video signal processor available in SD (480i), ED (480p), HD (720p, 1080i and 1080p) Up and down conversion between video formats such as UHD (2160p). The UHD NatureVueTM ADV8005 video signal processor provides multiple screen resolutions for two simultaneous video streams for a wide range of applications, from A/V receivers and HDMI crossovers to commercial video distribution systems and digital signage. The new processor produces high-quality bitmap display (OSD) internally, allowing designers to easily integrate features such as scrolling text and animation in up to 24-bit true color. OSD information from external sources such as graphics processing devices is also acceptable.

The ADV8005 video signal processor has a flexible digital core that allows designers to configure the device in a variety of different modes, including single-channel and dual-channel video processing. The processor integrates two on-chip HDMI transmitters that support UHD video formats and all mandatory and multiple selectable 3D video resolutions. In addition, the ADV8005 integrates six 12-bit video DACs that support SD and HD video outputs. To reduce the overhead of synchronizing video signals, the ADV8005 can synchronize multiple output video streams from each ADV8005 video signal processor to a reference sync signal from an external source.
The ADV8005 includes a full consumer electronic control (CEC) master and audio feedback channel receiver that accepts up to 6 channels of I2S, S/PDIF, direct digital stream (DSD) and high bit rate (HBR) audio.
ADI's Blimp OSD development tool supports all NatureVue video signal processors
To optimize the OSD design process, Analog Devices offers proprietary Blimp OSD development tools to help designers design, debug, and simulate OSDs prior to integrating system applications. Once the design is complete, the OSD development tool automatically generates code that can be integrated with the system application; in addition, OSD design resources are generated, which can then be loaded into the external SPI flash.
The ADV8005 video signal processor can be used with the ADV7625 series of HDMI transceivers that ADI has recently introduced.
