ADI Wang Sheng: Healthcare and artificial intelligence determine the future of wearable devices

At the 6th Annual China ICT Media Forum held by Shenzhen in the past, Mr. Wang Sheng, Marketing Manager of the Asia Pacific Region of Analog Devices, shared the three stages of the evolution of the application function of wearable devices.

According to a report released by international research institute IDC, the global wearable device growth rate reached 32.8% in 2016, the growth rate of China's wearable devices reached 52.9%, and the total wearable device market in China in 2016 was 38.76 million units. It grew by 57.1% year-on-year, becoming the second largest mobile smart consumer terminal device in the Chinese market after smartphones. Global wearable device shipments are expected to reach 237 million in 2020, while China's shipments will reach 83 million.

ADI's Wang Sheng believes that the wearable device market has to go through three stages of development. The first stage is the current stage, which is simple exercise health management, complete preliminary physical data collection, record daily exercise pace, and then have certain social functions. But the stickiness needs to be further enhanced. In the first phase, ADI performed functions such as heart rate monitoring and motion detection. Now, how to derivate more technologies, so that the device can achieve more function collection at the same time, and improve the overall user experience. "Wang Sheng said.

In addition to further enhancement of functions, the second phase will increase health and living environment parameters, and integrate with its own data to generate more useful data feedback to users, complete non-inductive services, and further enhance product stickiness. “For example, we are going to run now. The daily UV exposure and PM2.5 content are not quantified. If the environment and exercise data are put together in the background, you can give you a new service. This is good, and people like indoor sports. I don't know the indoor oxygen content pollution. This function can be done through wearable devices. The second stage is to develop in this direction. ADI and many companies are optimistic about this direction. It can further improve the user's stickiness." He said .

The third stage is to combine big data with artificial intelligence and wearable devices, and truly realize non-inductive control acquisition and processing through artificial intelligence. For example, if the user sleeps wearing a bracelet and the indoor temperature is lowered, the temperature of the air conditioner can be automatically adjusted by collecting the body temperature, and then the system can automatically adjust the temperature of the air conditioner. "We predict that the wearable device is a very critical link in the artificial intelligence scene, and is a big data collection. An important means."

Does this mean that the future of a single bracelet or watch products will gradually add more features, will develop in a more intelligent direction? "Sure. Why isn't there a step in place? Because some technologies are not mature now, usually in a wearable product, adding a sensor, the power consumption will increase a lot, while the volume and cost considerations can not be ignored, so only step by step. Improve and add more features to achieve the best function, performance, size, power consumption and cost. Of course, this is also related to the market and functional positioning of specific products. But how to condense the functions of mobile phones into watches, which requires a lot of reality Technology, one of the biggest challenges is the balance and implementation between power consumption and size (battery capacity and hardware board space).
