From Hanwang creeps to entrepreneurial fighters
Reporter: Talk about what you have been doing and how to evaluate your team?
Bai Hongliang: I graduated from the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and worked at Hanwang, Fujitsu, and France Telecom. The experience of Hanwang played a big role in promoting my entrepreneurial career. As a listed company, the research is result-oriented. I graduated. Since then, he has not stayed at the automation researcher, but also because he wanted to do some industrial applications, he decided to take the entrepreneurial road.
The experience of Fujitsu made me feel more depressed. This is related to the culture of Japanese companies. I was responsible for text detection, OCR, etc. in the connection of notebooks and TVs. But three years later, I joined France Telecom under the introduction of a friend. There is more room for development here. At the same time, I met Dong Yuan, an extremely important partner to me. He is currently responsible for the research and development of Feisou. He is also a professor and a director of the School of Information and Communication Engineering at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. In the early days of our business, we both worked together and we discussed everything.
Although we were late in business, we were among the first teams to engage in deep learning and image recognition research. Within two years of business, we have accumulated many customers, including domestic and international users such as Huawei, China Telecom, France Telecom, and Taiwan Quanta Computer. In the field of face recognition and image recognition algorithms, there are currently 32 applications for patents, 14 software copyrights, and 49 trademarks.
Before that, the customers from Turkey made me impressed. After comparing our technology and the technology of European counterparts, we found that our advantages are obvious. We finally chose us, but they are relatively strong. The technology licensing in China is generally three years. Term, but they want to be longer. Later we discussed the decision not to set time limits and long-term cooperation. This was because the other general manager flew to Beijing and reached a cooperation after five days of difficult rounds of negotiations.
During these processes, our team has gradually grown and there are currently more than 50 R&D personnel. Most of the R&D teams led by Ms. Dong are postgraduates. They are very young and powerful. They took two months to develop prototype products. In addition, the team’s innovation is very good. One year can apply for 30 patents, which is stronger than many companies. Patenting means innovation. In the VOT2017 (Vision Target Tracking) international evaluation, Feisou Technology won the second of the Global Challenge.
Reporter: What is the business model of FeiSheng Technology? How to establish your own advantages?
Bai Hongliang: Our current commercial practice is “broad relationship†and hopes to reach cooperation with as many partners as possible. There are now more than 200 companies that use our products through the licensing model, and everyone will make the industry bigger and stronger. Moreover, we focus on the field of security, we will not be too broad, as narrow as possible, do as far as possible in-depth, artificial intelligence is the Red Sea, but the core technology also belongs to the Blue Ocean, the company can provide excellent technology few.
In respect of financing, we value the channel, funding and channel solutions. Our pre-A investor is a channel company in Qingdao.
In terms of revenue, our revenue comes from authorization on the one hand, accounting for 40%, on the one hand, it is a security solution, which accounts for 60%. Last year, because we just got the investment, we started the layout and the revenue is not very good, but this year's revenue target It is 10 million and it is expected that it can achieve its goal.
Technology endless data processing or industry problems
Reporter: In terms of technology, what kind of problems are currently being invested in research and development?
Bai Hongliang: The technology is endless, and it needs to be continuously upgraded. Face detection, face recognition, and retrieval are still a lot of room for improvement. On a data set, our face recognition is about 99.7.
In addition, data is the fuel for R&D. We have a huge amount of data. This is the point where performance can be improved. At the algorithm level, we are also researching and upgrading. Research on super-resolution image restoration is of great value for security. Because many times, public security The handling of the case can only get a blurry photo. Through our recovery technology, it can provide multiple high-definition photos. This technology is very competitive in the market.
Of course, there are still common problems in the industry, such as the processing of massive data is still under study.
Reporter: Face recognition is currently the hottest direction of artificial intelligence. Despatch, Shangtang, and Yuncong all have impressive strengths. How does FeiSheng Technology face competition? How to evaluate them?
Bai Hongliang: We are now on our own. We must first do the heroes behind the scenes and cooperate with more people. Many competing companies do not see some channels of customers, and many customers do not want to cooperate with more powerful companies, but our technology is not better than them. Poor, and can provide customized development.
Our benchmarking company's investment is more of a U.S. dollar fund, and if we are listed, it is definitely in China. This determines that the investment companies are different, and because the valuation is not high, many people can make money. We have considerable differences in the positioning of products, service quality, and price, etc.
Reporter: Image recognition technology has gradually been applied to face unlocking and payment. However, the security issues it has faced have become the focus. This year's 315 evenings will identify face recognition security issues. How do you resolve this problem in this regard?
Bai Hongliang: The 315 party did cause a shock to the industry. In terms of living detection, we have updated the algorithm to provide interactive and silent methods to solve problems such as pictures, video, and mask attacks. Security issues are an issue that the industry pays attention to. It is also a problem that we attach great importance to.
However, most face payments are still risky. Face recognition only improves the verification specifications and is convenient. At the end, it still requires password payment. Bai Hongliang: Artificial intelligence is a hot area. There will be more and more companies involved, the industry will become larger and larger, and there will be huge demands in the security field. But we must guard against bubbles and everyone must be rational.
At the same time, each will be more and more subdivided and now in the era of melee, but afterwards it must be integrated. We must break the island of information. Many people now lay out in the western security market, but each is independent of each other and needs to get through in the future. Scattering is unreasonable. It requires a company or an organization to organize everybody. It cannot be “one charge for every single expresswayâ€.
Reporter: What opinions do you have on the AI ​​threat theory that is hotly debated by netizens?
Dong Yuan: Actually, artificial intelligence can't really be called "artificial intelligence." Now that artificial intelligence is only making decisions, it's still far from creating new awareness and rules. Everyone needn't worry too much. Now there is no threat.
Reporter: I understand that you like running very much. How do you understand the relationship between running and entrepreneurship?
Bai Hongliang: Running a marathon is a personal hobby. I once ran in Hong Kong's 100-kilometer race from Pak Tam, the easternmost part of Hong Kong, to Tai Mo Shan, the westernmost point of Hong Kong. I like to think about running or being alone. New ideas and new decisions are made during the run.
