In order to ensure the standardization and rigor of technical materials and maintain the company's technical image, the following writing specifications should be noted in the preparation of the company's official technical documents, public prints and media manuscripts:
First, the general writing specification
The value of the parameter is usually expressed in Arabic numerals instead of Chinese or English words. Such as: 5 dB, never written as five dB or five dB;
There should be spaces between the numbers and the unit symbols for easier reading. Such as: +4 dBu, not +4dBu; in some document formats, there is a gap between the number and the unit symbol without spaces, and no spaces are needed;
Chinese should use Chinese punctuation, for example: Chinese period is "." instead of "."; English sentence ends with the dot "." instead of ".";
An abbreviation consisting of the first letter of a number of English words, usually the letters should be all capitalized.
Such as: FOH (Front of House), avoid writing Foh;
RMS (Root Mean Square), avoid writing Rms;
RCA (Lotus plug, short for Radio Company of America) should be avoided as rca;
XLR (card connector, from Cannon's earlier product line) should be avoided as xlr.
Second, the standard use of unit names and unit symbols
The concept of physical quantities, unit names, and unit symbols should be distinguished first.
In the International System of Units, the unit name of the current is ampere, which can be abbreviated as amp, the unit symbol is A; the unit name of the voltage is volt, and the unit symbol is V. In the international system of units, there is a clear specification for the representation of unit names and unit symbols; units that are not in the international system of units are usually regulated by relevant industry standards or customary usage. Ignoring these specifications is not only rigorous, it is more likely to lead to confusion and errors. Common unit names and symbols are as follows:
Table 1*: Names and symbols of units of the International System of Units and other professional audio units
The expression of the parameter should use the standard unit symbol and should not be the unit name. The unit symbol usually has no plural form. Such as:
5 dB, should not be written as 5 decibel or 5dBs
16 A, should not write 16 amp or 16 amps, nor can write 16 As
500 Hz, should not be written 500 hertz;
1 m, should not be written 1 meter, nor 1 M.
In addition, in the International System of Units, there are also clear specifications for unit prefixes such as “minutesâ€, “PCTâ€, “thousands†and “megasâ€. See the table below for details:
Table 2*: Prefix names and symbols for decimal numbers in the International System of Units
1 kHz, should not be written 1KHz;
1 kg, should not be written 1Kg.
In order to avoid ambiguity, multiple values representing the same physical quantity are written separately after each value.
Such as: 20 Hz – 20 kHz, should not be written 20 – 20 kHz;
10 MHz – 100 MHz, should not be written as 10 – 100 MHz.
Third, the brand and model
For third-party brands and product models, the description should be consistent with official data, including letter case, slash, bar, space, etc. The official writing of some brands is all capital, such as: YAMAHA, XTA, AKG, EAW, JBL;
The official writing of some brands is all lowercase, such as: dbx, beyerdynamic, d&b audiotechnik, audio-technica; the official writing of each brand's product model has special case preferences or slashes, spaces, etc.
Such as: Neutrik speakON for the official writing, Speakon is not;
powerCON is the official wording, Powercon is not;
V-DOSC is the official wording, VDOSC and Vdosc are not;
E901, e902, and e914 are officially written, while E901, E902, and E914 are not.
Please refer to the official website or official product information for details. When some brands or product models have no clear case, they can be capitalized for a single English word, and all uppercase letters for a letter combination.
