EU releases the world's strictest carbon emission standards

The European Parliament recently set a world’s most stringent automotive carbon emission control target, which requires automakers to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by 27% by 2021.

The above-mentioned automotive carbon emission control targets require that the average level of carbon dioxide emissions of 95% of new cars sold within the EU by 2020 must not exceed 95 grams per kilometer. By 2021, this requirement must cover all new cars sold in the European Union. If automakers fail to meet the above criteria, vehicles that exceed the carbon emission standards will be penalized by the European Union's 95 euros (US$130.60) per gram/km fine. The current target of carbon dioxide emission control for new vehicles within the EU is that by 2015, the average carbon dioxide emissions will be 130 grams per kilometer. In 2012, the carbon emissions of new cars in the EU will be 132 grams per kilometer. In countries other than the European Union, the new carbon dioxide emission control target for the United States is 121 grams per kilometer.
