Seoul Semiconductor Co. Ltd, a leading Korean LED manufacturer, announced that the Central District Court of California in the United States rejected the Lanham Act and the California Law on October 14, 2008. Nichia and Nichia's lawsuit regarding patent infringement cases in Seoul Semiconductor.
The lawsuit began in December 2007 when Seoul Semiconductor issued a statement to the media on a patent lawsuit between Nichia and Nichia. At that time, Seoul Semiconductor made the court's legal judgment summary (not final judgment) on the case public. After considering the debates and testimonies of both sides, the US court found no evidence that Seoul Semiconductor’s actions caused any harm to Nichia and eventually dismissed the lawsuit in Nichia. The trial results are as follows:
1. Seoul Semiconductor does not need to pay any compensation to Japan.
2. Seoul Semiconductor will receive a successful trial requesting all content for Nichia.
3. Nichia shall compensate Seoul Semiconductor for the costs associated with the litigation.
