Fast 60V protected high side N-channel MOSFET driver provides 100% duty cycle capability

Milpitas, Calif., and Norwood, MA – July 13, 2017 – Analog Devices, Inc. (Analog Devices, Inc., ADI) Linear Technology CorporaTIon introduces the LTC7003, a high speed, high side N-channel MOSFET driver that operates from supply voltages up to 60V. Its internal charge pump fully enhances the external N-channel MOSFET switch, allowing it to remain on indefinitely. The LTC7003's powerful 1Ω gate driver is very easy to drive large gate capacitance MOSFETs with very short conversion times and 35ns propagation delay, making it ideal for high frequency switching and static switching applications.

The LTC7003 operates from a 3.5V to 60V (65V absolute maximum) input supply range with a 3.5V to 15V driver supply range. The device senses an overcurrent condition by monitoring the voltage across the external sense resistor, which is in series with the drain of the external MOSFET switch. When the LTC7003 detects that the switch current has exceeded the preset value, it determines a fault flag, and the switch is turned off for a period of time. The length of the turn-off time is set by an external timing capacitor. After a predetermined cooling time, the LTC7003 automatically retry.

The LTC7003 is used to receive a ground-referenced low-voltage digital input signal and quickly drive a high-side N-channel power MOSFET with a drain that is 60V higher than ground. Fast 13ns rise and fall times minimize switching losses when driving a 1000pF load. The LTC7003 features adjustable current limit, current monitor output, and adjustable overvoltage lockout and enable inputs.

The LTC7003 is available in an MSOP-16 package. Available in three working junction temperature versions, extended to industrial temperature grades from –40°C to 125°C, and high temperature automotive grades from –40°C to 150°C, while military temperature grades The version has a temperature range of –55°C to 150°C.
