The network is full of characters related to smart homes . Do you really understand it? To put it simply, smart home is a residential platform, using integrated wiring technology, network communication technology, security technology, automatic control technology, audio and video technology to integrate home life related facilities, and build efficient residential facilities and family schedules. The management system enhances home safety, convenience, comfort, and artistry, and realizes an environmentally-friendly and energy-saving living environment. It can operate interactively according to different states without user command.
Do you really know about smart home?
Why can different smart home devices in our home work in the same environment because of Wi-Fi? If you don't have Wi-Fi outside, why can you see the situation at home? Why do some smart home products can be controlled with Siri? In the process of interviewing the smart home business, I heard the name of an agreement: Zigbee, what is Zigbee, and what it is used for, why should we understand it. Today we will take a look at several standards for smart home technology .
Z-wave, Zigbee, Allseen, Thread four smart home technology standards
We know the smart home technology standards, and the ones we are most familiar with are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. But in fact, in addition to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, there are currently two major smart home technology standards, one is Z-wave and the other is Zigbee. Let's first come to know each other.
1, Z-wave: short-range wireless communication technology
According to the definition of Baidu Encyclopedia, Z-Wave is a wireless networking specification led by the Danish company Zensys. It is an emerging RF-based, low-cost, low-power, high-reliability, network-appropriate short-range wireless communication technology.
Since it is a short-range wireless communication technology, it should be suitable for home. Therefore, it is used in residential, lighting commercial control and status reading applications such as meter reading, lighting and appliance control, HVAC, access control, theft and fire detection.
In addition, it converts any stand-alone device into an intelligent network device for control and wireless monitoring. Therefore, it was originally positioned in the field of smart home wireless control when it was originally designed. In other words, it is born for the wireless control of smart homes.
As for how to implement the technical control, let's take a small example and you will understand. The three-bedroom, one-bedroom home has three lighting control switches, three wall switches, a remote control, and a touch control panel. All the devices are guaranteed to be connected, then you can see the switch status of all Z-Wave networked appliances in your home through the remote control and touch control screen, and you can easily control them.
2, Zigbee: wireless network protocol for low-speed short-distance transmission
Also according to the definition of Baidu Encyclopedia, ZigBee is a low-power LAN protocol based on the IEEE802.15.4 standard. "bee" means the bee. "zig" is the "beep" sound of the bee's flapping wings. Therefore, it is also called the purple bee protocol. Bees rely on this way to form a communication network in the group.
ZigBee is characterized by close proximity, low complexity, self-organization, low power consumption, and low data rate. It is mainly suitable for automatic control and remote control, and can be embedded in various devices. In other words, it is a wireless network protocol for low-speed short-distance transmission.
ZigBee is also suitable for smart home. When I interviewed Nanoleaf smart light bulbs, Chong.Zhang, marketing director of Nanoleaf China, told me that Nanoleaf uses ZigBee communication protocol and light bulb lighting to realize communication. Therefore, communication with smart devices can be achieved using the Zigbee protocol.
As for Z-wave and Zigbee, which is better, Z-Wave has targeted home automation applications since its inception, and ZigBee is pursuing a wider range of applications. Therefore, the initial guiding ideology of the two is not the same. There are also advantages and disadvantages. As for the choice of which technology to use as the basis for your own products, it is entirely up to the company itself.
3, Allseen: Internet of Things Alliance
When it comes to Allseen, it should be the Allseen Alliance. The Internet of Things Alliance consisting of companies such as Linux Foundation, Qualcomm, LG, Sharp, Haier, Panasonic, HTC, SiliconImage, TP-Link, and Cisco.
The original framework of the AllSeen Alliance was derived from the AllJoyn open source project, driven primarily by the Qualcomm Innovation Center, and later involved processor vendors, network infrastructure vendors, router vendors, and home terminal vendors. Join the alliance business and hope to be able to communicate with each other.
In September 2014, AllSeen Alliance Chairman Liat Ben-Zur reported on his blog about the work of the AllSeen Alliance: already has nine key members and 42 community members; eight working groups led by members are actively Work to submit better code and implement additional features and improvements, such as security and lighting; two versions of AllJoyn have been released, including the SDK; the AllJoyn project can be extended to all HLOS platforms, from Android to IOS to Linux. OpenWRT, Windows and even a variety of embedded RTOS solutions with extremely limited memory and processing power.
As can be seen from the work process, the Allseen Alliance is trying to bring you an open platform, at least within the members to achieve code open, so that products between members can be integrated into the technical standards.
