The Advanced Organic Optoelectronics Research Center (OPERA) of Kyushu University in Japan has recently developed a high-fluorescent material that will be used in the third-generation OLED to make it more efficient and cheaper.
It is understood that this latest luminescent material is already the third generation technology. Looking back at the first and second generation technologies, the first generation of fluorescent materials is the most advantageous because of their low price. However, the efficiency of converting electrons into light is poor, so they are mostly used in low-end products. As for the second-generation fluorescent material, the biggest advantage is that the conversion efficiency can approach 100%, but the problem is that the rare metal iridium is used in the material, which makes its price very expensive.
The third-generation fluorescent material currently developed in Japan just integrates the advantages of the first and second generation. Not only does the luminous efficiency reach 100%, but also the use of other metals to replace the iridium metal, the material cost is saved by 10% Ninth, it has more cost advantages than the second-generation fluorescent materials.
At present, OPERA has adopted the latest fluorescent materials and tried to produce small-sized OLED panels with a lifespan of thousands of hours. OPERA plans to commercialize new fluorescent materials one year later, and it is expected to be first adopted on smartphones. And in order to avoid South Korea having this technology, the supply target will be given priority to Japanese manufacturers. In the future, this organic fluorescent material will very likely become a secret weapon for Japan to compete with South Korea's Samsung Electronics, which currently dominates the world.
