Dimming is a complicated vocabulary for designer friends: some friends think that he is a strange field, some have dimming and headaches, troubles are equal, and some are applied handy.

Today we will talk about dimming: The original meaning of dimming refers to changing the brightness of the light emitted by the light source.


The initial dimming of the electric light is only one form of variability. I believe that everyone must be very familiar with the "small bulb" and "sliding rheostat" in the physics class.



Changing the resistance can dim the light, but it also brings a lot of heat loss.


However, in 1959, an epoch-making invention was born. American Jewish scientist Joel Spira applied thyristor technology to the field of lighting for the first time and invented the first solid-state electronic dimmer.

It is with the dimming as the basis that people have invented the lighting control system (LCS: lighting co ntrol system) that can complete complex logic.

However, it is not an easy task to achieve dimming in reality. For example, the lamp itself is like a car. Dimming is driving the car. The dimming device is the driver. The dimming method is the driver's license. Let us continue with this example.

  • The total power of each loop must not be less than and exceed the minimum and maximum load of the module

  • The average dimming effect is poor, and the pressure is poor, generally 25-100%.

  • Modules are generally installed in the power distribution room

  • Connect to other devices for intelligent control

  • Dimming a luminaire with a “0-10v” drive

  • Each circuit can only be connected to a single source

  • The total power of each loop must not exceed the maximum load of the module, such as 10A (2200W)

  • There is no standard for dimming, preferably 10 - 100%

  • 0-10v control line length is generally <100m

  • It is recommended to connect no more than 20 lamps per circuit.

  • Modules are generally installed in the power distribution room

  • Connect to other devices for intelligent control

  • Each DALI link can connect up to 64 different luminaires and group control the luminaires

  • DALI drives are powered directly from the distribution box
