"Can drive a variety of LED bulbs", Renesas has exhibited six evaluation boards with LED driver ICs

Renesas Electronics Develops LED Control Circuit Evaluation Board "R2A20134EVBLED" with LED Driver IC "R2A20134" and Demonstration at "26th Power System Exhibition" of "TECHNO-FRONTIER 2011" held at Tokyo Ariake International Convention and Exhibition Center (Zone No. 3U-209). Renesas called the evaluation board "R2A20134 development support tool."

R2A20134 is an IC that is used internally in LED bulbs. It has been available since December 2010. According to the commentator of the power system exhibition area, setting the MOSFET on the high side is the most important feature of this IC. Therefore, low-cost MOSFETs (products with a withstand voltage of 500V to 300V) can be used. On the low side, expensive MOSFETs with voltages above 700V must be installed.

The R2A20134EVBLED has a total of six products that can be applied to a variety of LED light bulbs. The six products differ in terms of whether they use a transformer's insulation structure or a coil's non-insulated structure, whether they support triac dimming and control methods. In addition to the evaluation board itself, manuals including evaluation board instructions, evaluation data, parts lists, and external constant setting aids are bundled.

According to Renesas' release, the introduction of the evaluation board will increase the output of R2A20134 to 10 million per month in 2014. At the press conference in December 2010, Renesas announced a production scale of 3 million units per month when volume production began in March 2011.
