Microchip's PAC1934 is a quad DC power/energy monitor with accumulator, with a bus voltage monitor and current sense amplifier, directly input to a high resolution ADC, digital current for power calculation and energy accumulation. Monitoring period from 1ms to 36 hours or longer. Power measurement accuracy 1%, 24-bit accumulator count, 2.7-5.5V operating voltage, mainly used in notebooks and tablets, network equipment, automotive electronics, cloud, Linux and server computing and industrial and Linux Application. This paper introduces the main features, block diagram, system block diagram and functional block diagram of PAC1934, as well as the main features, circuit diagram, bill of materials and PCB design of PAC1934 evaluation board ADM00805.
The PAC1934 device is a four-channel energy monitor, with bus voltage monitor and current sense amplifiers that feed high-resoluTIon ADCs. Digital circuitry performs power calculaTIons and energy accumulaTIon.
This enables energy monitoring with integraTIon periodsfrom 1 ms up to 36 hours or longer. Bus voltage, senseresistor voltage and accumulated proportional power are stored in registers for retrieval by the system master orEmbedded Controller.
The sampling rate and energy integration period can be controlled over SMBus or I2C. Active channel selection, one-shot measurements and other controls are also configurableby SMBus or I2C.
The PAC1934 uses real time calibration to minimize offset and gain errors. No input filters are required for this device.
